India assures Nepal of help in resolving supply issue

Date:

New Delhi: Holding talks with Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa on Sunday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj assured that India is ready to help resolve supply issue in case there are any bureaucratic hurdles within the border constraints.

Both leaders discussed a range of issues of mutual interest. Thapa, who is also Foreign Minister of the Himalayan nation, arrived in India on Saturday evening on a three-day visit.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar had called on Thapa.

“Working for peace, stability & reconciliation in Nepal. EAM @SushmaSwaraj meets Deputy PM & FM Kamal Thapa in Delhi,” Vikas Swarup, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, tweeted.

According to sources, Swaraj asked Thapa about the roadmap to resolve the political deadlock in Nepal, while telling the Nepalese Deputy Prime Minister that peace and reconciliation with all groups is the way out to resolve political impasse.

Deputy Prime Minister Thapa sought India’s help in sending more than 300 fuel laden trucks via alternative routes, and to ease down the supply of essential supplies goods, sources said.

Thapa told Swaraj that Nepal is committed to resolve the political crisis, sources said.

Thapa will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

The visit provides both countries with an opportunity to further strengthen the India-Nepal relations.
