Manipur BJP predicts wins for party candidates in by polls

BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba has expressed confidence that party nominees Khumukcham Joykishan and Thongam Bishorjit will register wins in their respective Constituencies in the upcoming by-elections.

On the other hand the Congress had earlier nominated Jyotin Waikhom in Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency and Bijoy Koijam in Thongju Assembly Constituency. After camping in New Delhi for some days to discuss with Central leaders about by-election related matters, Th Chaoba returned to the State capital on Wednesday.

According to The Sangai express, soon after his arrival, he addressed a press conference at Nityaipat Chuthek party office. He said that party National president Amit Shah had approved State leaders’ recommendation to field Khumukcham Joykishan and Thongam Bishorjit in Thangmeiband and Thongju ACs respectively as party candidates.

Copies of an order issued to this effect by Central party election committee secretary Jagat Prakash Nadda was distributed to the media persons present at the press conference. He said that BJP would fight the upcoming by-election with a vision to form a corruption-free State Government.

A State level election campaign committee and a media management committee has been constituted to efficiently fight the by-election, he said. Th Chaoba is the chairman and M Ashinikumar is the convenor of the 11-member State level election campaign committee.

The State party president further said that L Basanta and Bikramjit Kongkham are the chairman and convenor of the seven-member media management committee respectively. Th Chaoba rued that three MLAs have been disqualified. He further said that one of the disqualified MLAs has been allowed to take part the Assembly proceedings after the High Court quashed the ruling of the Speaker’s Tribunal.

The State BJP president questioned MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam why he defended the ruling of the Speaker’s Tribunal without studying the facts. He said that the State Government is now unable to bear their 10 per cent fund share for MGNREGS. As such, job card holders are not getting 100 days’ work although 25 per cent of MGNREGS funds are fully controlled by MLAs in their respective ACs, he said.

Th Chaoba said that the Central Government has started questioning the State Government about the matter. On the other hand, the State Government is yet to implement Food Security Act, he said and added that PDS rice is being sold in the market while shipping in of PDS sugar and wheat has been stopped.

Th Chaoba said that everybody wants to know whether BJP would get majority in the State Assembly election 2017. This can be ascertained from the results of the upcoming by-elections of Thongju and Thangmeiband ACs, he observed. He urged the people of Manipur to support BJP in ensuring a corruption-free Government.
