‘Designer vaginas’ on the rise to look good in Yoga pants

Date:

The number of women willing to put their vaginas under the knife, in order to look more chic while wearing certain clothing, increased by nearly 50 percent from 2013-2014, plastic surgeons have revealed.

From girls as young as 16, to women in their 70s, more women than ever are choosing to undergo cosmetic surgery to alter the appearance of their genitals.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has recorded a rise in the number of women opting to get a labiaplasty – the surgery which changes the size and shape of the inner or outer vaginal lips. People typically go for it if they’re uncomfortable with the size of their labia, or if they’re causing daily discomfort.

But now, more and more women are choosing to have the operation to look good in leggings and bikinis.

“More women are pursuing labiaplasty to correct labia-related issues that are interfering with their ability to perform sexually, to perform daily tasks such as exercise, or are merely causing discomfort,” says Dr. Michael Edwards of ASAPS.

For many women, large labia can result in real pain and discomfort during sex and when wearing tight clothes, with the labia getting trapped and pulled.

Labiaplasty is an operation performed on the labia, or ‘lips’ surrounding the vagina.

Surgery can be performed on the labia majora – the outer, larger vaginal lips – or the labia minora – the smaller, internal vaginal lips.
The procedure can change the size or shape of a woman’s labia.

Typically the surgery is performed to make the labia smaller, or to correct asymmetry.

Labiaplasty operations can cost between $6,000 to $8,000, while non-invasive ThermiVa procedures cost $3,000 for a session of three.

Another operation popular for ladies’ private parts is vaginoplasty, which aims to tighten a vagina that has become loose due to ageing or childbirth.
