2G case: SC dismisses Kanimozhi’s plea

Date:

In a blow to DMK leader Kanimozhi, the Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea by the leader, which asked for quashing of the charges against her in the 2G spectrum scam.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu said that it would be inappropriate to interfere in the probe, as it was nearing completion. Co-accused Shahid Balwa, who had filed a similar plea, faced a similar fate.

The bench said, “It is too late for us to interfere in trail proceedings, as it is almost complete and youconvince trial court about your innocence.”

The court also modified its 2011 order, in which it had said that only the top court would hear the case, allowing the Delhi High Court to look at pleas of the accused against judgments of the special courts holding trials in the case.
