BJP Nat’l Exec should be summoned to form single opinion on Bihar loss: Swamy

Date:

Maverick Baharatiya Janatiya Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy said on Wednesday that there was a need for the party to formulate a single opinion on the nature of its defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections.

He said that there were two opinions on the nature of the defeat, and therefore the National Executive should meet soon to brainstorm on the reasons of the defeat.

Swamy told news agency ANI, “Since there are now two opinions as to what was the nature of our defeat, therefore, I think, it’s time to come and form one single opinion of the party. For that, the national executive is the best and that should be summoned as soon as possible.”

Referring to the banner of revolt raised by senior BJP leaders late on Tuesday night, Swamy said: “I don’t think they have named anybody, but certainly, they have raised questions about the leadership style. They are very senior leaders in Margdarshan Mandal created by Narendra Modi himself,” he added.

“They would welcome the advice of the experienced people. They have been there from day one, and therefore, they have the right to say what they feel is in the interest of the party,” he said.

The BJP’s top brass has so far defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah, insulating them from the Bihar defeat.

It issued a counter statement in response, saying they have been ‘fortunate’ to be led by Advani for decades and welcomed any guidance and suggestion by the senior leaders.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday that the BJP was a party of workers, and not of workers who belonged to the same family. A win, he said should be attributed to everyone, and so should a loss.
Holding Modi or Shah responsible for the Bihar loss would be wrong, Gadkari said.
