13 injured in group clash in UP

Muzaffarnagar: At least 13 persons were injured in a clash between two groups after a woman was allegedly hit by a motorbike in Shernagar village.

As per the complaint, two groups belonging to different religious communities clashed with each other in Shernagar village under New Mandi police station area yesterday, after a woman was hit by a motorbike, SSP K B Singh said.

The incident turned violent when people belonging to both the groups started pelting stones and attacking each other with lathis and sharp weapons, he said.

Around 13 people, including two women were injured in the attack, Singh said, adding that the injured have been admitted to the hospital.

A case has been registered against 24 persons and around 12 persons have been arrested so far in the incident, police said.

Further probe is on in the matter, they added.
