Teen’s gang rape comes to light after aunt receives video clip

Date:

Mumbai: A 15-year-old girl was gang-raped by her classmate and three of his friends. The incident came to light after the survivor’s aunt received a video clip of the incident on WhatsApp.

The incident took place on November 8, when a 15-year-old was gang raped by her boyfriend and his friends on the pretext of seeking help in studies.

“All the four accused have been detained now and their medical inspection was conducted on Thursday. The accused are local minor boys, studying in class 9 and 10. These boys are infamous in the area for their bullying activities,” senior police inspector with the Malad police station, Shashank Shanbhor said.

“As they are minors, they cannot be arrested and after being produced before a juvenile court, they have been sent to Dongri correction home on Thursday where they will be questioned by a Child Welfare Officer,” he added.

According to another senior official with the Malad PS, “The minor girl’s aunt received a Whatsapp video forward on her mobile, which showed the rape. After learning the facts, the aunt of the girl approached us on Wednesday, after which an FIR was registered. The four accused have been booked under relevant sections of rape, including Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.”

The boys ensured that none of the family members were at home when the incident happened and recorded the entire incident on their mobile phone. However, one of the accused shared the video of the incident on Whatsapp and it soon became viral.

The police has arrested all the accused of the crime and they have been booked under Section 376 (G) (gang rape) of the IPC and also under certain sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
