Swiss confirm two FIFA officials held, suspected of taking bribes

The Swiss government said two FIFA officials were detained in Zurich Thursday, confirming reports of newarrests in the broadening FIFA scandal, and said they were suspected of accepting millions of dollars in bribes.

“The high-ranking FIFA officials are alleged to have taken the money in return for selling marketing rights in connection with football tournaments in Latin America, as well as World Cup qualifying matches,” the Swiss justice ministry said in a statement.
