Miss Universe crown snatched from Colombia as host goofs up

The world has a new Miss Universe, but it wasn’t without the drama. One lady’s loss became another one’s gain, even as host Steve Harvey featured in one of the biggest goof ups yet.

Miss Universe contestant from Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo had a brief window of fame and all the happiness in the world, when her name was announced as the winner. But seconds later, that fame dawned upon the Miss Universe contestant from the Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Colombia contestant Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo was already wearing the crown as this year’s Miss Universe winner when host Steve Harvey returned to apologize.

Harvey took responsibility for not reading the card correctly that named contestant Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach this year’s winner and Colombia the first runner-up.

He even took to twitter to apologise for the mistake but termed the night as amazing nevertheless. But, the shock on Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo’s face was unmistakable.

Either way, congratulations, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach!
