In a historical achievement in Indian gymnastics,The Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) today announced 22-year-old Dipa Karmakar as the “World Class Gymnast”.
Sport Authority of India confirmed it on Twitter.

Earlier, she had become the first female Indian gymnast to qualify for the Rio Olympics. Assam-born Dipa garnered 52.698 points at the test event to qualify for the Rio.
According to a Sports-News-Website, since independence, 11 male gymnasts took part in Olympic, this is first time a woman gymnast has qualified for the summer games.
Dipa also won a bronze medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and she was the first Indian to make the finals of World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in Glasgow.
This latest title surely boosts Dipa’s spirit for Rio Olympic.
