The Olympics are the foreground for die-hard competition as well as a bundle of controversies. But in an unusual and rather sweet turn of events, yesterday the Rio Olympics village became the centre-stage for love.
The Deodoro stadium was at awe with Australia’s breathtaking, record-breaking win at the game of women’s Rugby (7 gold medals), but what came after was even more awe-inspiring. A 28-year-old venue manager, Marjorie Enya, took over a microphone and proposed to her beloved, Brazilian rugby player Isadora Cerullo.
Enya delivered a moving speech, expressing her love for Isadora, which was followed by a marriage proposal.
Marjorie’s loving words echoed through the arena, radiating a sense of love and togetherness amongst the crowds.
Isadora’s ‘yes’ called for a loving embrace and a kiss from the couple, followed by the crowd cheering at an Olympic spectre of its own kind.
Their love was in turn broadcast to the entire world, breaking the recent, continued stress of the games.
Enya told BBC Sport- “As soon as I knew she was in the squad I thought I have to make this special.”
“She is the love of my life,” she added.
25-year-old Cerullo’s rugby squad finished ninth in the competition. The lovely couple lives in Sao Paulo, where they had moved to give Cerullo a better chance at focusing on her sports career.
The mega-Olympic-proposal has taken the stakes higher for lovers planning to propose to their better halves. Everyone around the world is now wishing the happy pair success on their coming married time together.
