Rio 2016: Deepika and Manoj keeps medal hope alive

Deepika advanced into the 1/8 Eliminations round of the women’s individual archery competion. Deepika defeated the higher ranked Kristine Esebua of Georgia in the 1/32 eliminators and then went against Italy’s Guendalina Sartori  in the 1/16 eliminators.

In another event, Manoj stunned 2012 London Olympics lightweight bronze medallist Evaldas Petrauskas of Lithuania by a 2-1 win in the opening round of the men’s Light Welterweight (64kg) category on Wednesday.

In shooting event, Jitu finished 12th in the 50m Pistol qualification round. He failed to reach the finals where competition will be by eight competitors. Jitu managed the 5 rounds, but the sixth cost him dearly to finals. Jitu told reporters, “I let my country down. There was wind but I don’t want to make any excuses”.

The Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza’ mixed double match which was to take place on Thursday night, as per IST has been postponed due to rains. The event will take place on Friday, 12 Aug at 12:00 AM.
