Copra surges on rising demand

Mumbai, Aug 17 (PTI) Copra prices surged at the spicesmarket here today on rising demand from stockists andretailers amid heavy millers offtake. Meanwhile, rest all other prices held steady in theabsence of any major buying. Copra office Alappuzha and copra office Kozhikode climbedby Rs 300 per quintal each to Rs 6,400 and Rs 6,300 fromTuesday’s closing level of Rs 6,100 and Rs 6,000,respectively. Copra edible Mumbai advanced by Rs 200 per quintal toRs 7,400 as against Rs 7,200 yesterday and copra RajapurMumbai firmed up by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 9,600 as againstRs 9,500 previously. Following are today’s closing rates (in Rs with previousrates in brackets): Black pepper (per kg) 735/805 (735/805), ginger bleached(per kg) 150 (150), ginger unbleached (per kg) 170 (170),copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 6,400 (6,100), copraoffice Kozhikode (per quintal) 6,300 (6,000), copra RajapurMumbai (per quintal) 9,600 (9,500), copra edible Mumbai (perquintal) 7,400 (7,200).
