Akali-BJP damaged Punjab beyond redemption: Cong leaders

Baba Bakala (Amritsar), Aug 18 (PTI) Punjab Congressleaders today alleged the Akali-BJP government in the state"damaged and devastated Punjab beyond redemption". The Opposition party alleged Revenue Minister Bikram SinghMajithia was responsible for "spreading the scourge of drugsin the state and destroying an entire generation". PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh promised that oncethe Congress forms government in the state, he will "setMajithia right" as he was responsible for "destroying anddevastating an entire generation". "One generation is already lost and we have to save thenext generation", he said while addressing a rally here today. Singh reiterated his promise that he will finish the drugsproblem within four weeks. "We will set up a special team of highly competentofficers for the purpose and expressed confidence that theguilty will be jailed before four weeks," he said. "Not only have the Badals and Majithia pushed the stateinto drugs, they have also destroyed it economically. Today,Punjab owes 1.25 lakh crore in debts," he said. "The Badals have made accumulation of personal wealththeir full-time job. Be it hotels, transport, cable, sandmining, liquor trade and any other profit making venture, theyhave grabbed everything," he alleged. The PCC president also cautioned people against the"designs and machinations" of Badal in "sabotaging peace" inPunjab and "polarising" people along religious lines. "The recent attack on an RSS leader, preceded by an attackon Sant Ranjit Singh Dhadarianwale and the incidents ofsacrilege before that, all were aimed at polarising people asBadal believed it suited him," he said. Hitting out at the Aam Aadmi Party, Amarinder cautionedpeople against the "misleading and alluring promises" made bythe AAP in Punjab. MORE PTI CHS CHT RGCHT
