Collection agent vanishes with over Rs 50 L of Delhi Metro:

Police New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) A cash collection agent made offwith over Rs 50 lakhs of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)which he had to deposit in a bank that had hired him for thework, police said today. The accused, Neeraj was hired to collect cash from MetroRail stations and deposit them money at a bank branch inBhikaji Cama Place. On August 16, he had collected cash from seven Metrostations and instead of depositing the sum at the bank, hevanished and his mobile phone was found to be switched off,said a senior police officer today. The accused collected cash from Udyog Bhawan Metro stationcontrol room at around 2 PM and then boarded a train towardsHUDA City Centre, he said. But instead of going to AIIMS station where an escortvehicle was stationed to take him to the bank, he got down atMalviya Nagar Metro station and has been untraceable sincethen, the officer said. Neeraj was carrying over Rs 50 lakhs in cash collectedover three days, he said, noting that the amount was much morethan the usual Rs 12 lakh, as it was collected over theextended weekend due to Independence Day holiday on Monday butnot deposited in the bank. The accused worked with a private security agency hired bythe bank for the past two-and-a-half years. A case of theft and breach of trust has been registeredwith Delhi Metro police and investigation has been taken up.Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused who hailedfrom Bihar, the officer said.
