New Delhi, Aug 22 (PTI) A special CBI court today allowedthe plea for exemption of personal appearance of INLD chief OP Chautala’s son Abhay, an accused in a disproportionateassets case who had gone to attend Rio Olympics, and directedhim to seek its prior permission in future to go abroad. The court while allowing his plea, said no condition wasthere in the interim bail order to seek permission beforeleaving the country. "There was no stipulated condition in these orders thataccused will seek permission of the court before leaving thecountry. …The exemption application of the accused isallowed," CBI special judge Sanjay Garg-1 said. "In future, if accused is going abroad, he will seekpermission of the court," the judge added. On August 17, the CBI had sought cancellation of bail toAbhay for going to the Rio Olympics without the court’spermission. While seeking the court’s direction to Abhay to surrenderin the case, CBI had said he was no longer the President ofIndian Olympic Association and there was "no public interest"in his visit to Brazil for the Olympics. Abhay’s counsel had submitted that no formal permissionwas sought since there was no condition in the bail order ofthe accused that he will not leave the country withoutpermission of the court. Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Kumar Gupta had arguedthat it was not necessary for the court to mention in the bailorder that the accused is required to take its permissionbefore leaving the country. CBI had lodged a case of disproportionate assets againstINLD chief and former Haryana Chief Minister O P Chautala andhis sons Ajay and Abhay on a complaint of Congress leaderShamsher Singh Surjewala in the 1999-2000 junior teachersrecruitment scam.
