West Bengal to revise curriculum of degree courses: minister

Kolkata, Aug 22 (PTI) The West Bengal higher educationdepartment has decided to update and revise the curriculum ofall general degree courses as suggested by University GrantsCommission. "The state council of higher education has decided toto update and revise the curriculum of all general degresscourses, specially the science subjects", state EducationMinister Partha Chatterjee said today. This, he said, would be done in consultation with theuniversities to make it in conformity with the choice-basedcredit system as suggested by UGC. "For engineering courses, similar exercise had beencarried out and a report prepared by a committee set up inthis regard has been circulated among all state universitiesrunning such courses for their views. The revised curriculumis expected to be introduced from the next academic session,"he said at a CII event here where President Pranab Mukherjeewas also present. The minister said a committee of subject experts hadbeen set up and a professional consultancy firm had beenselected to complete the task in a time-bound manner. Calling for greater cooperation between the industry andacademia, Chatterjee said the motto of the higher educationroadmap is 4Es – expansion, equity, excellence andemployability. PTI dc KKKK
