‘Claims not verified about rehabilitated LTTE cadres’

Colombo, Aug 23 (PTI) The claims that rehabilitated LTTEcadres in Sri Lanka had been made to receive poisonousinjections under government care are yet to be verified,Northern chief minister CV Wigneswaran has said. "We have only received complaints and nothing has beenverified. We will subject them for examination to verify theclaims," Wigneswaran told reporters yesterday. "We have asked for a report to be sent to us then we willdecide on the next course of action," he added. Wigneswaran’s northern provincial council had resolved toask for an investigation into the claims that over 40 formerLTTE cadres had been injected poison during the process ofrehabilitation. The government had dismissed claims as rubbish. The Tamil groups claimed that the LTTE cadres hadsuffered physical disabilities while at least six of them haddied of cancer due to poisonous injections given while underrehabilitation. Those rehabilitated had surrendered to the military atend of the LTTEs defeat in 2009. The government said over 8,000 of them had beenrehabilitated and re-integrated in to the society. Theyunderwent livelihood skills and language training underrehabilitation. Earlier, Sri Lanka’s Tamil politicians have alleged thatover 100 LTTE cadres at rehabilitation centres were injectedwith poison leading to their deaths. PTI CORR AMS ABHAMS
