Pravara girls win state-level U-17 football tournament

Mumbai, Aug 23 (PTI) Pravara Rural Education Society’sPravara Kanya Vidya Mandir girls team has won the state levelSubroto Cup for football in the under-17 category afterbeating Arya Vidya Mandir, Juhu, Mumbai. Pravara girls won the match 1-0 at Bhiwandi inneighbouring Thane, yesterday. The team has been now selected for the national leveltournament, to be held in Delhi next month. The national-levelSubroto Cup is open to a few South Asian countries, a Societyspokesperson said. Players from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Afghanistan,Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka are among countries that willparticipate in the tournament, to be held at the AmbedkarSports Stadium, New Delhi. Executive Chairman of Pravara Rural Education SocietyDr Ashok Vikhe Patil lauded the team for their performance. This victory shows that there is no dearth of talentat the rural level, Vikhe Patil said. Subroto Cup Football Tournament is a popularinter-school football tournament, named after Air MarshalSubroto Mukerjee. It started in 1960 and has been conducted every yearsince then.
