Vijayawada, Aug 23 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief MinisterN Chandrababu Naidu tonight handed over a cheque for Rs threecrore to Olympic silver medal-winning shuttler P V Sindhu. He also presented a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to Sindhu’scoach Pullela Gopichand and Rs 25 lakh to badminton playerKidambi Srikanth, who also competed in Rio Olympics. The cheques were presented at the grand finale of theKrishna Pushkaram at Pavitra Sangamam at Ferry village nearhere. Head of Sri Datta Peetham, Mysuru, Ganapati SatchidanandaSwamy felicitated Sindhu and others on the occasion. The state government had announced a cash reward of Rs 3crore to Sindhu, a 1000-square yard residential plot in thestate’s new capital city Amaravati and also offered a Group-1officer job of her choice in the state government. On August 20, the state Cabinet also decided to rewardGopichand with Rs 50 lakh for propelling Sindhu to Olympicglory. This morning, the Chief Minister announced that Gopichandwould be given 15 acres of land in the proposed Sports City inAmaravati for setting up a world class badminton academy.
