Robbers loot gold jewellery, cash in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, Aug 24 (PTI) In a daylight heist, five armedrobbers today entered a house claiming to be a team of GujaratPolice which had earlier investigated the family for allegedlysheltering Asaram Bapu’s son Narayan Sai and looted gold andcash in Model Town colony here. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dhruman Nimble saidthe house belonged to Raj Kumar Agnihotri who is a distributorof Samsung electronics and had a showroom here at Sunder Nagarlocality. The family is believed to be a staunch follower of AsaramBapu and it was alleged that they provided shelter to his sonNarayan Sai, when he was on the run after being named in acriminal case. The Gujarat Police had then raided the office andresidence of the family to arrest Narayan Sai. Pushpa Devi, wife of Raj Agnihotri, told the police thatthe robbers, though were not in police uniform, introducedthemselves as a team of Gujarat Police which had come on aspecial mission. They robbers forcibly entered the house and alsomanhandled the security guard posted at the gate and took himinside the house at gunpoint. They took the family members at gunpoint includingAgnihotri’s wife and two daughters-in-law and locked them in aroom. Later, Agnihotri told police that the robbers had decampedwith 200 Tolas of gold Jewellery and cash to the tune of Rs 12lakh. They also took away a .32 bore revolver and a .5 boregun from the family. Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh told reportersthat there were five robbers who managed to escape in a whitecar. Police were searching the footage of CCTV camerasinstalled nearby.
