Mother of tortured boy arrested; sent to judicial custody

Kochi/Idukki, Aug 26 (PTI) The mother of a nine-year-oldboy allegedly subjected to torture by her and her husband atAdimali in Idukki district was today arrested, police said. The woman was produced before Devikulam Munsiff courtjudge Reshmi B Chittoor who remanded her to 14-days judicialcustody. Police have booked the woman and her husband, suspected tobe drug addicts, under relevant sections of Juvenile JusticeAct and 326(b) of IPC, punishment for attempted act ofafflicting burn injuries, police said. The father of the boy is already in judicial custody inconnection with another case. The court allowed the woman to take her three-month-oldgirl child along with her to the women’s jail in Thrissur,where she would be lodged, police said. Another minor child of the woman has been lodged in agovernment-run shelter home in Cheruthoni in Idukki district. The boy subjected to brutal torture for nearly a week intheir house was rescued by some locals three days ago and hadbeen admitted to Kalamassery Medical College Hospital. The condition of the boy was improving, doctors said. According to the statement given by the boy to police, hisfather had hit him with an iron rod while his mother attackedhim with a coconut. The father had also poured hot water onhim, police said. Initially, the boy had told the police that he was attackedby a monkey, but later narrated his ordeal. PTI CORR TGB ROHVSKUN
