Spl session of Tel legislature on Aug 30 to ratify GST bill

Hyderabad, Aug 26 (PTI) A special session of Telanganalegislature is convened on August 30 to ratify theConstitution Amendment Bill on Goods and Service Tax (GST). Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao todayheld a meeting with Legislative Affairs Minister Harish Raoand other senior officials on fixing the date for discussionon the Bill in the Legislative Assembly and LegislativeCouncil. "The Chief Minister has requested Assembly SpeakerMadhusudhana Chary and Council Chairman Swamy Goud to conveneboth the Houses on August 30 to debate the GST Bill," stated arelease issued by the Chief Minister’s Office. The Advocate General will attend the session as aspecial invitee in order to clear doubts of the members, ifany, on the legislation. Passed by Parliament recently, the GST bill needs tobe ratified by at least 15 state legislatures before thePresident can notify the GST Council which will decide thenew tax rate and other issues. The government has set April 1, 2017 as target date forrolling out GST, considered as the biggest tax reform in thecountry since Independence. PTI GDK NSKKISJMF
