Security to be stepped up for doctors in Cuttack

Cuttack, Aug 27 (PTI) Concerned over recent spurt inattacks on attending doctors by relatives of patientsÂ’ onalleged charge of negligence in treatment, Odisha DGP K BSingh today instructed all district SPs and DCPs of to step uppolice patrolling in and around government hospitals. The instruction was issued for safety and security ofdoctors and other hospital staff, the DGP said. In a circular issued on the day, the DGP has asked thesupervisory officers to instruct the police station andoutpost officers to book the attackers under Odisha MedicareService Persons and Medical Service Institutions (Preventionof Violence and Damage to Property) Act of 2008 and otherprovisions of IPC or any other minor Acts. Similarly, on FIRs registered against doctors forcriminal negligence in such matters, arrests should be madeonly when an independent and competent opinion is obtainedfrom a panel of qualified doctors of relevant branch, theDGPÂ’s circular said.
