Delhi govt to provide piped water connection to each household

New Delhi, Aug 29 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party governmenttoday announced to provide piped water connection to everyhousehold in slum clusters, unauthorised colonies and villagesand also decided to waive off Rs 1,100 crore of late paymentsurcharge on the water bills owed by the city’s commercialestablishments. Announcing the introduction of ‘DJB Jal AdhikarConnection’ scheme, Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra termedas "historic" the decision and said that the AAP governmentwas working hard to provide water connection to everyhousehold in the national capital. The decisions were taken at the 128th meeting of the DelhiJal Board today. Mishra said all late payment surcharge on water bills,which has been a long-pending demands of all small hotel andrestaurants owners, would also be waived off. Apart from these, the DJB has also decided to set uplargest Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in the city, produce 16Megawatt of solar power by installing solar panels at therooftops of Board’s offices and its unused land and 24×7 watersupply in Mehrauli and Vasant Vihar areas. "The DJB has decided to introduce ‘Jal Adhikar Connection’under which individual water connection will be given to everyhousehold in all 500 JJ Clusters. Tenants and villagers whodo not have address proof can also apply for new waterconnections by producing identity proof under this policy,"Mishra said. He further added that basements and DDA flats will begiven individual water connections. "DJB will provide 100 per cent Late Payment SurchargeRebate (LPSR) to all the consumers in the commercial categorytill November 30. LPSC rebate worth Rs 1,100 crore has beengiven which will benefit around 1.25 lakh consumers," theminister said. (MORE) PTI BUNSMJ
