Mercedes-Benz brings petrol powered GLE400 SUV

The diesel ban in Delhi may have been lifted but seeing the consumers turning towards petrol and the uncertainty about the future of diesel cars is forcing the manufacturers to have petrol options for as many cars as possible from their portfolio.

Continuing the trend, Mercedes-Benz -one of the most affected manufacturers from the ban, have introduced a petrol version of their highest selling SUV GLE in India at the price of Rs 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

Until now, the GLE SUV was only available with two diesel engine options, 250d with a 2.2 litre, four cylinder turbo engine and 350d with a 3.0 litre V6 turbo engine between price range of Rs. 62.85 lakh to Rs. 74.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new GLE 400 4Matic be the range topping version of the SUV at Rs. 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The GLE 400 4Matic is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine that churns out 328bhp of max power and 480Nm of peak torque between 1600 to 4000 rpm. The petrol unit comes mated to Mercedes’ 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox that sends power all four wheels via 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Apart from the engine, all the specs and features remains unchanged from the diesel version of the SUV.

Mercedes-Benz has also said that they are planning to have petrol option for all their models in India by September this year.
