Punjab relaxes upper age limit for sportspersons in police

Chandigarh, Aug 29 (PTI) With an aim to promote sports,Punjab cabinet today gave its nod to relax the upper age limitfor sportspersons desirous of joining Punjab Police. It has also decided to consider players who haveparticipated in tournaments prior to 2012 Olympic gameseligible for recruitment in Punjab Police. The decisions were taken in a meeting chaired by ChiefMinister Parkash Singh Badal here. "To propel sports activities across Punjab, the Cabinetagreed to give three years relaxation in the upper age limitto the sportspersons who have won medals in internationalevents and are desirous of joining Punjab Police," an officialspokesperson said. At present, the upper age limit of joining the police asDeputy Superintendent is 28 years and for Sub-Inspector andConstable, 25 years. In another major decision, the cabinet approvedregularisation of services of 198 service providing trainers,employed under the Centre of Excellence Scheme of TechnicalEducation and Industrial Training Department, as craftinstructors. "The decision would result in creating a potential 4,000additional seats in industrial training institutes to givefurther impetus to skill training in the state," thespokesperson said. The cabinet also gave its approval to create three postsof Senior Scale Stenographer in place of three posts of SeniorAssistants surrendered by the Cooperation Department. "This move will streamline the functioning of thedepartment, besides providing promotion avenues to StenoTypists/ Junior Scale Stenographers," the spokesman said. The Cabinet also gave its approval to fill backlog of 14posts in Punjab home guards and Civil Defence department. "This decision would bring far more efficiency in thefunctioning of the department with the induction ofexperienced and disciplined ex-servicemen besides providing anemployment opportunity to them," the spokesman said. The Cabinet also gave ex-post facto approval to disbursedevelopment grants to every village panchayat, received fromthe 14th Finance Commission, "so as to enable them toundertake their infrastructure works in accordance with therecommendations of fourth Punjab Finance Commission". The Cabinet also accorded status of sub-tehsil to JandialaGuru. At present, Jandiala Guru falls in Amritsar districtand its residents have to visit sub-division office situatedin Amritsar- I for their revenue related works. PTI CHS CHTZMNRC
