Subsidised LPG rate hiked by Rs 2 per cylinder

New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) The price of subsidised cookinggas (LPG) was today hiked by about Rs 2 per cylinder, thirdincrease since July, while the jet fuel price was cut by 3.8per cent. A subsidised 14.2-kg cylinder will now cost Rs 425.06 inDelhi as against Rs 423.09 previously, according to state-owned oil firms. This is the third straight increase in subsidised cookinggas since July when the government decided to go in for asmall hike in rates every month to cut down subsidies. LPG rates were last hiked by Rs 1.93 per cylinder onAugust 16. Prior to that rates were hiked by Rs 1.98 per 14.2-kg cylinder on July 1. The government had recently decided to take the dieselroute for eliminating subsidies on LPG and kerosene. Dieselprice was deregulated in November 2014 after the previous UPAgovernment effected 50 paise hikes every month to eliminatesubsidies. The near Rs 2 per cylinder hike in LPG every month isalso aimed at doing the same thing. In case of kerosene, thegovernment has allowed state-owned oil companies to raise theprice by 25 paise a litre each month for 10 months. The thirdhike in kerosene was effected today. A litre of kerosene now costs Rs 15.93 in Mumbai. Delhihas been declared a kerosene free state and no subsidised PDSkerosene is sold in the national capital. Simultaneously, the oil firms cut prices ofnon-subsidised LPG, which consumers buy after exhausting theirquota of 12, by Rs 20.5 per 14.2-kg cylinder. Non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) now costs Rs 466.50 inDelhi as against Rs 487 per cylinder previously. Rates werelast reduced by Rs 50.5 on August 1. Also, the aviation turbine fuel (ATF) price was cut by3.8 per cent, second straight cut. ATF, or jet fuel, price inDelhi was cut by Rs 1,795.5 per kilolitre (kl), or 3.8 percent, to Rs 45,411.18. The reduction comes on back of a 4.2 per cent cut inrates on August 1. Price of non-subsidised kerosene was hiked to Rs 51.07per litre from Rs 48.41 a litre previously. Oil firms revise rates of ATF and cooking gas on 1st ofevery month based on oil price and foreign exchange rate inthe preceding month. PTI ANZSA
