WB briefs BRICS Young Diplomats about development initiatives

Kolkata, Sep 3 (PTI) The West Bengal government todayshowcased before a delegation of BRICS Young Diplomats’ Forumvarious development programmes initiated by Chief MinisterMamata Banerjee projecting overall development of the stateand the better lifestyle of it’s people. The meeting was held as a delegation of the BRICS(association of five major emerging national economies:Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) YoungDiplomats’ Forum reached the state secretariat ‘Nabanna’ tomeet state’s Higher Education and Parliamentary AffairsMinister Partha Chatterjee. On a query by the young diplomats, the minister explainedbefore them how the Mamata Banerjee Government is going aheadwith its various development programmes like Kanyashree,Yubashree, Sabuj Sathi and a host of other projectssuccessfully. Among other things, state’s cultural heritage, success insmall scale industries, irrigation and agriculture were thehighlights during the interaction. To a question, Chatterjee told the delegation aboutvarious steps taken by the state government in particular totrain up young talents and make all women economicallyself-reliant. State Youth Affairs Minister Arup Biswas welcomed thedelegation members. State Home Secretary Moloy Dey and Agriculture SecretarySanjeev Chopra too were present on the occasion. The BRICS Young Diplomats will be in the city tillSeptember 6 and participate in various programmes, besidesmeeting Speaker of the state Assembly Biman Banerjee onSeptember 5. India will host the two-day 8th Annual BRICS summit fromOctober 15 in Goa with the participation of the heads of stateor heads of government of the five member states Brazil,Russia, India, China and South Africa.
