DDA to barcode files, letters

Date:

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) DDA has decided to barcode all itsfiles and letters, seeking to bring in further transparencyand ease access to them for officials and general public. The Delhi Development Authority today said the work hasbeen awarded to an agency and in next few months barcodingscanners and printers will be installed. "Initially, the barcoding scanners and printers will beutilised in the public dealing departments and in due courseof time throughout the DDA," it said in a statement. General public as well as DDA officials would be able totrack and know the status of files or letters faster. Recently in a bid to bring in transparency and know thestatus of files/letters without visiting any particularbranch, ‘File/Letter Tracking System Applications’ wereimplemented in each branch of the DDA. Through that application, one can see movement of anyfile/letter by clicking a ‘search’ button. "But it has beenfound that this system is getting cumbersome as officials ofeach department are required to make entry of number of eachfile/letter at every point of time it is sent or received," itsaid. Now to make this system very easier, the system ofbarcoding of each and every file/letter is being implemented,it added. "Earlier in DDA, receipt and dispatch of files andletters was being done by making entries in respectiveregisters manually and status of movement of the files/letterscould be known only by moving around the particular branchesto which files/letters were sent," DDA said.
