Lucknow, Sep 7 (PTI) After getting tremendous response onTwitter, Uttar Pradesh Police is going to be the first statepolice force in the country to have its own Twitter-basedgrievances redressal service. "DGP Javeed Ahmad and Twitter Vice President Rishi Jaitleyand CEO Rahil Khurshid will launch the service from the statecapital tomorrow," Additional Superintendent of Police, DGPoffice, Rahul Srivastava told PTI. "UP will be the first state in the country, where Twitterwill be used at all its police stations to redress grievancesof people and to have better connect with them," Srivastavasaid, adding that earlier such service was launched inBangalore but it was for limited area. Twitter service has been launched by Centre for importantdepartments like External Affairs, Railways and Commerce. About the service, Srivastava said this is Twitter-basedcustomer relation management platform in which through asoftware complaints would be forwarded to concerned districts aparticular code will be generated for a complaint. Through these codes, complaints will be later tracked, hesaid, adding, "It will also help command centre (in Lucknow) toknow about the status of complaints on a click of a mouse." With a view to have better connect with people and helpthem air their grievances and also to keep a tab on actiontaken by the police, DGP Javeed Ahmad had issued directives toall the police stations to open twitter accounts. "The social media platform has become an important andeffective tool to reach out to people and connect with them.Thus, it’s need of the hour to adopt technology and use theplatform," Ahmad said. DGP has already asked district police chiefs to opentwitter accounts in the name of the concerned district policeand configure it with respective CUG mobiles of SPs. "The updates of twitter thus will directly be monitored bythe SPs and they will be able to feel the pulse of people andkeep a tab on activities of their juniors too," the DGP said. For uniformity, the district police have been asked to usedesign and header used by @Uppolice, which already has 45.9Kfollowers.
