Woman loses Rs 55,000 from her bank account

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 9 (PTI) In yet another case of ahigh-tech ATM theft, a woman bank customer had Rs 55,000stolen from her account from abroad, police said. The woman, an account holder with State Bank ofTravancore’s Pattom branch, said in her complaint to policethat the money was withdrawn twice on September 3 and 5. Police said the cash had been withdrawn from a foreigncountry from an ATM counter, but did not elaborate. The heist comes less than a month after some persons losttheir money in an ATM theft involving some foreigners,including Romanians. On August 10, a Romanian national, who along with twoother foreigners was suspected to be involved in the hi-techATM fraud in which a number of people lost money here, wasarrested in Mumbai. They had obtained details of bank customers and withdrawnmoney using fake ATM cards. Police suspected the electronic device at the ATM counterhad enabled the fraudsters collect the secret pin code andcard details. PTI JRK APRRCJ
