Medical officer assaulted by villagers in Maharashtra

Palghar (Maha), Sep 20 (PTI) A medical officerattached to a Primary Health Centre at Wada in the districtwas allegedly assaulted by a group of villagers over allegedmedical negligence causing the death of a woman, police saidtoday. The incident took place yesterday when the primeaccused Mahesh Patil of Deoghar village along with othervillagers raided the Primary Health Centre (PHC) and thrashedthe medical officer, sub-inspector H B Dhangar of Wada policestation said. Patil’s wife had died on September 17 due to post-deliverycomplications while being taken to the Thane civil hospital,Dhangar said. After delivery, she was initially treated at WadaRural Hospital and was referred her to Thane hospital, hesaid. According to the Dhangar, Patil alleged that his wife wasnot given medical attention on time at the PHC in Wada whichled to complications and caused her death. He held the doctorsat the PHC were responsible for his wife’s death. A case under relevant sections of the IPC and thePrevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 and theMaharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare ServiceInstitutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss toProperty) Act, 2010 was registered in this regard, theofficial said. No arrests have been made so far and investigation isunderway, Dhangar said. PTI CORR NRBASVSRE
