Bollywood’s obsession with Airforce

Bollywood is the mirror of the society which depicts various aspects of life. Over the years Bollywood showcased different perspectives of various professions.

On 84th Airforce Day NewsMobile brings you some of the iconic Bollywood flicks that will make you join the Airforce:

1. Mausam

Mausam is a movie released in 2011, starring Shahid Kapoor, opposite Sonam Kapoor in lead roles. The main story of the film spans over a period 10 years, from 1992 to 2002 and includes references to Demolition of Babri Masjid,Bombay Riots, 1993 Bombay bombings, Kargil War, 9/11 attacks and Post-Godhra Riots.

2. Rang De Basanti

Released in 2006, this film broke all the box office records in India. This was the highest-grossing film in its opening weekend.  The story is about a British documentary filmmaker who is determined to make a film on Indian freedom fighters based on diary entries by her grandfather, a former officer of the British Indian Army. The story also revolves around an air force officer who dies, and on this, the government blames the pilot and does not take any responsibility for him.

3. Vijeta

It is a 1982 film produced by Shashi Kapoor and directed by Govind Nihalani. It stars Shashi Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, Rekha, Amrish Puri, Supriya Pathak and K.K Raina. In this film Kunal Kapoor becomes a fighter pilot with the Indian Air Force. What follows is his struggle to become a victor both with his self and the outer world.

4. Veer-Zara

A 2004 film directed by Yash Chopra, the film stars Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta in main roles. An unfortunate love story of an Indian Air Force pilot, Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh and a Pakistani woman hailing from a rich political family of Lahore, Zaara Hayat Khan, who are separated for 22 years. Saamiya Siddiqui, a Pakistani lawyer, finds Veer in prison and upon listening to his story, tries to get him freed.

5. Border

Border is a 1997 movie based on Indo-Pak war of 1971. J.P Dutta directed and produced this movie as well as LOC Kargil. This movie stars sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Sunil Shetty and Jackie Shroff as ‘Anand Bajwa’ who was the Indian Airforce wing commander at that time.
