What Could You Do if Your Photos are Used to Blackmail You?

Date:

This event has brought me to standstill for some time. Credits to the CNN team which reported it first. 26-year-old Taruna Aswani received this email on morning.

She was again reminded by another mail that night.

The mails weren’t empty threats, they added the pictures, she had sent to her boyfriend.

Taruna chose to speak up and go public.

Her post got wide response on social media(positive and negative).
Taruna hails from Mumbai but shifted to Maryland in the US five months ago to pursue a career as a professional physical therapist. She has been in Maryland throughout the ordeal.

The incident has been reported to the Cyber crime cell and the police is taking the necessary actions.
But it is still difficult for many of us to come out and ask for support for the ordeal inflicted on us. The taboo of “log kya kahenge” has stopped many of us from complaining. But, the brave hearts like Taruna are examples that women can change such trends and move beyond the societal chains.
