Barrier made to avoid casualties during protests

\ Srinagar, Oct 26 (PTI) A four-wheel movable road barrier\is a new and unique system devised by Jammu and Kashmir police\to avoid casualties during protests, against the backdrop of\large number of deaths and injuries that have occurred over\the last three months in the Valley.\ Named as \\"Multipurpose Nafri Guard\\", the barrier is first\of its type in the country to deal with the violent mobs.\ \\"The purpose of A-4 wheel movable road barrier is to\block the roads so that violent mobs cannot cross the\specified line,\\" said Special Director General of Police,\Coordination and Law and Order S P Vaid while inspecting the\barrier here today.\ He said the barrier has a square welded wire mesh to save\the personnel from head and body injuries during stone\pelting.\ \\"It is provided with a stand from where pellet shall not\hit the mob, protestors above the waist. Besides, stand points\have been adjusted to fire tear smoke shells at 45 degree to\prevent direct hit to the protestors causing their death,\injuries,\\" Vaid said.\ He said the barrier is equipped with protective shield to\save the personnel from head injuries during violent protests.\ The special Director General appreciated the efforts of\SSP Police Transport Workshop Srinagar Iqbal Afroz Malik and\the team of technicians for fabricating the unique barrier to\save the human lives during protests.\ \\"Police is adopting modern methods to prevent loss of\human lives, while dealing with law and order situations,\\" he\said.
