Plane carrying Brazilian football players crashes in Colombia

A plane that left Bolivia with 72 passengers including football players from Brazil’s Chapecoense football team and flight crew has crashed on Tuesday on its way to Medellin international airport.

Aviation authorities said there appear to be survivors.

Colombian authorities on Tuesday responded to an emergency after a plane carrying the Brazilian football team Chapecoense crashed en route to Medellin in Colombia.

Jose Maria Cordova airport said on Twitter that there “appear to be survivors.”

According to a report, at least 10 people have been injured and are being evacuated from the scene, the commander of La Union fire department said.

Brazil’s Chapecoense football team had been due to play Atletico Nacional for the Copa Sudamerica finals in Medellin on Wednesday. But soon after the incident the South American football confederation CONMEBOL announced that the football tournament had been suspended.
