Arunachal to frame stipend policy for students, Adhaar must

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh government on Wednesday decided to frame a stipend policy for the students and to make Adhaar registration compulsory for all students.

The meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein was aimed at streamlining the process of the disbursement of students’ stipends, an official communique informed.

The meeting also decided to examine all the central schemes and stipends that provide higher rates to tribal students and to propose strategies to be converged.

A committee of secretaries was constituted under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Education to formulate the Stipend Policy at the earliest.

The deputy chief minister asked the committee to form the new Stipend Policy within the current financial year so that it could be implemented from the next session.

Mein said that it has become pertinent to streamline the disbursement of stipend to check draining out of government resources.

He informed that the step was being taken in line with the streamlining of wages of the labourers that was done during the time of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu to link the payment of wages with Photo Identity.

Planning secretary Joram Beda, Secretary made a presentation on department-wise details of stipend holders, requirements of the fund and budgetary allocations. He also highlighted about the Centre’s stipend/scholarship schemes through a power point presentation.
