Cold grips Valley; Leh coldest at -10.9 degree Celcius

Srinagar: Kashmir division reeled under sub-zero minimum temperatures as Leh in Ladakh region was the coldest recorded place at -10.9 degrees Celsius.

“Leh recorded a low of -10.9 degrees Celsius last night. Kargil town, also in Ladakh region, recorded a minimum temperature of -10.2 degrees Celsius,” an official of the MeT department said.

He said Srinagar recorded the minimum temperature of -2.7 degree Celsius, down from previous night’s -0. 5 degree Celsius.

The official said the Pahalgam health resort which serves as a base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra shivered at a low -5.3 degrees Celsius compared to the previous night’s -4.9 degrees Celsius.

Kokernag town in south Kashmir registered a low of 0.8 degree Celsius, same as Tuesday’s night, the official said.

Kupwara, in north Kashmir, recorded a low -2.7 degree Celsius against -0.7 degrees Celsius previous night, while Qazigund the gateway town to Kashmir Valley registered the minimum of -0.8 degrees Celsius, which was marginally up from -3.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The weatherman has forecast dry weather for rest of the week.
