As the Tower remains a top tourist location, and hence, an easy target; target for terrorist forces, Paris will build an eight-foot-tall glass barrier around the base to increase security measures.
Asistant Mayor for tourism, Jean-Francois Martins, said, “The terror threat remains high in Paris and the most vulnerable sites, led by the Eiffel Tower, must be the object of special security measures,” said the “We have three aims – to improve the look, make access easier and strengthen the protection of visitors and staff.”
The enhanced security structure will encompass not only the Tower but also the the surrounding gardens. There will also be fewer entry points and visitors will have to go through several checkpoints.

The Eiffel Tower is currently guarded by a temporary chain-link fence that was placed at the time of Euro 2016 in light of the terrorist attacks that rocked Paris in November 2015 claiming 130 lives.
