Stone-pelting in Ramjas college; clash between ABVP and AISA

Violent protest erupted at Delhi University’s Ramjas college on Wednesday, with clashes between ABVP and All India Students Association (AISA) members taking place.

The scuffle broke out during a protest march by the college students and teachers demanding action against the ABVP’s disruption of a literary seminar on Tuesday.

The Common Student Teachers March was planned to begin from the Ramjas campus to Maurice Nagar police station, when they were stopped by members of the ABVP, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

There were also reports of students being threatened, locked inside the college and beaten.

ABVP members disrupted a seminar at which JNU student Umar Khalid was invited to speak. Khalid was among the students charged with sedition in connection with an event at JNU last year where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.

Members of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) and the ABVP gathered outside the college and shouted slogans demanding that the invite to “anti-nationals” be cancelled.
