Goa beaches to have CCTV surveillance

Goa is now all set to install CCTV cameras on the beaches in order to increase surveillance and safety in the tourist spots of Goa. The first phase of installing cameras will start from along the coastline of North Goa according to the Tourism Minister Manohar Anjgaonkar. “The government has allocated funds under the Union Government’s Swadesh Darshan scheme” said Minister Manohar Anjagaonkar.

The first phase of the drive will cover coastline between Sinquerim to Kri, which will include popular beaches like Calangute and Baga, is underway while the second phase from Panaji to Canacona is awaited, said Manohar.
“We plan to set up special control rooms for monitoring CCTV footage at various Tourist Information Centers. CCTVs cameras will be made mandatory for beach shack operators too,” the minister said. The minister added.

More than 60 lakh tourists from all over India and 6 lakh from around the globe visit Goa every year according to the ministry of tourism reports. In such situation “Safety measures at hotels, tourist spots are now visible. Deployment of 100-odd India Reserve Battalion force and over 600 lifeguards along the coast, special women taxi service and CCTV cameras are adding more impetus to safety measures,” Tourism Minister said.
