Respond to complaint of power theft by DCP office: Lokayukta to DGP

Date:

Gurugram: The Haryana lokayukta has asked the the DGP to respond to a complaint that electricity theft was carried out allegedly by the office of the Gurugram DCP (East) in Sushant Lok for 28 months.

The lokayukta on April 17 passed the order asking DGP B S Sandhu to reply to this matter within 30 days, after the superintending engineer (south east) Gurugram Circle submitted his report in this case on April 12.

RTI activist Harinder Dhingra had filed a complaint regarding the matter before the lokayukta after which the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) was asked to inquire into the matter.

A senior officer of DHBVN said that the discom had disconnected the power supply of the office on April 20, 2012 on account of non-payment of dues amounting to Rs 3,93,104.

The amount was paid on August 7, 2014 and the DHBVN restored the power supply on the same day.

“It was found in the probe that the office of DCP (East) in Gurugram had been provided electricity for two years from April 20, 2012 to August 7, 2014 without a proper connection,” he said.

The discom had not given any permission for using the electricity directly, the official claimed.

Dhingra claimed, “I had filed an RTI with the ACP headquarters of the Gurugram Police, but no valid answer was given to me about how they supplied electricity during the period when the power supply was disconnected.”

Dhingra alleged that the DHBVN had not been conducted any raid between April 20, 2012 to August 7, 2014 on the office DCP (East) which was illegally availing electricity during the period.

As per the report submitted by DHBVN before lokayukta, the DCP (East) office has a current outstanding amount of Rs 1,01,575. The DHBVN officials have sent various memos as well as verbal communication about the same.

However, a senior police officer of the Gurugram Police refuted the allegations.

“There was no checking was conducted during 28 months period by DHBVN’s vigilance bureau. The allegations that the DCP (East) office indulged in power theft are baseless,” he said.
