Aviation ministry seeks postponement of GST implementation till Sept 1

Date:

The Civil Aviation Ministry on Thursday wrote a letter to the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to sought postponement of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation till September 1. The ministry in its letter demanded postponement on the grounds that airlines need more time to revamp their systems to comply with the new tax regime.

“Airlines are dependent on the Global Distribution System/computer Reservation System for ticket bookings. Considering the compliance requirements under GST, significant amendments would be required in the GDS for generating tickets as per the GST Invoice Rules. It is therefore requested that time up to September 1 may be considered for implementation,” read one of the pointers in the letter.

Jaitley, who will chair the 17th meeting of the GST Council on June 18, is likely to hold discussions on the same. The one-day meeting will also be attended among others by the finance ministers of different states and Union Territories (having elected assembly) being the members of the GST Council.
