Indian missions abroad to include medical tourism centres

Date:

The government is mulling a move to further promote India as a medical tourist destination in the world. The Ministry of Tourism is in discussions with Ministry of External Affairs to use the diplomatic mission abroad as medical tourism centres.

According to officials in the Tourism Ministry, including wellness and medical tourism centres in 14 overseas missions can boost medical tourism in the country and also save costs by removing the need to establish separate offices. The move fits into the Tourism Ministry’s plans to finalize a wellness tourism policy that promotes alternative therapies and yoga.

India has risen as a global destination for medical tourism as Indian medical care offers patients high quality medical assistance while being significantly cheaper than medical care in other nations. With overseas missions also doubling as medical tourism centres, India as a medical tourism destination will become even more accessible and showcases India’s medical care on the global stage.
