Aam Aadmi queues up; Netas want automatic business class upgrades

Date:

New Delhi: In what could be a spark to a new controversy, the Members of the Parliament have proposed to get an automatic upgrade to business class on Domestic Flights having vacant seats.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has also been asked to issue a circular stating these guidelines to airlines. Notably, each MP is entitled to 34 free air journeys per year in which they can opt to travel Business Class.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, JC Divakar Reddy, panel chairman and Telugu Desam Party MP, had asked civil aviation secretary Rajiv Nayan Choubey to distribute a circular conveying this demand to all domestic airlines. The request was made during a standing meeting on food, consumer affairs and public distribution.

“Why don’t you send a circular saying that, on identification, if there is a seat vacant in the business class, MPs should be provided a seat?” Reddy quoted in the report.

Samajwadi Party’s Ravi Prakash Verma also suggested that the civil aviation ministry should issue an order and send a copy to the panel.
