Republic Day celebrations across the globe

It was the 69th Republic Day of India and there were huge celebrations and the customary routines that took place all over the country. There were Asean leaders who were the chief guest and received the salute form the marching contingent at the India Gate. But it was not just India that celebrated, Indians across the world celebrated the prestigious day.

The 69th Republic Day India was celebrated in Washington DC on January 26 in the Indian Embassy. Ambassador Navtej Sarna paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Embassy. Thereafter the Ambassador unfurled the National Flag and the National Anthem was sung.

The High Commission of India and the Indian expatriate community in Sri Lanka celebrated the 69th Republic Day of India on Friday, January 26, 2018 at India House in Colombo.

High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu unfurled the Indian flag and inspected a Guard of Honor presented by a contingent of the Border Security Force. He read out excerpts from the Address to the Nation on the eve of the Republic Day by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.

The 69th Republic Day of India was celebrated at the premises of the Embassy. The unfurling of the National Flag took place by Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami.

Indian envoy Gautam Bambawale hoisted the tricolour at the embassy in Beijing and read out President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the nation. The event was followed by a cultural programme. Over 300 Indian expats and diplomats participated in the celebrations.

Indian High Commission in Bangladesh

Indian nationals rallied at the country’s High Commission in Dhaka, while the celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag as the national anthem was played on the backdrop. “The Republic Day has taught us to be respectful to all,” High Commissioner Harsh Bardhan Shringla told the celebration after hoisting the flag. He said the 1950 adoption of the Indian constitution, which is marked as the Republic Day, was the second most crucial event in nation building process of India.

The Indian embassy in Nepal celebrated the 69th Republic Day of India at a special function. Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri hoisted the national flag and read the president’s message. The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by over 1,000 people. The students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya and the Indian Cultural Centre, Kathmandu sang patriotic songs followed by a scintillating performance by the Nepal Army Band.

A large crowd of over five hundred people, including Indian citizens, people of Indian-origin and Russian nationals, participated in the joyous celebration braving the bitter January cold of Moscow.

The ceremony commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by Ambassador of India Pankaj Saran followed by singing of National Anthem

On the occasion, the envoy greeted the Indian community in Russia and also thanked all those who participated in the function. The event also included a cultural performance by the children from the Embassy of India School, Moscow.

 

Indian Embassy in Japan

The Indian Embassy in Japan organised a Flag Hoisting Programme on the 69th Republic Day of India at the Chancery premises on 26 January 2018. Despite it being a working day in Japan, a large number of Indian nationals attended the programme.

Ambassador H.E. Sujan R. Chinoy unfurled the national flag which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

India Embassy in Indonesia

The 69th Republic Day was celebrated at the Embassy of India in Jakarta. Prakash Gupta, Charge de Affairs, hoisted the National Flag at the Embassy premises as large gathering of Indian nationals and members of Indian diaspora watched with pride and joy.

Indian Embassy in Bulgaria

The Embassy of India Bulgaria celebrated the 69th Republic Day of India with a flag-hoisting ceremony in the Chancery premises. Ambassador Pooja Kapur read out President’s message to the nation which was followed by the screening of the Republic Day Parade at Rajpath and light refreshments. Indian nationals, persons of Indian origin as well as friends of India attended the ceremony.

The historic Nieuwe Kerk building was lit-up in the tri-colour of the Indian flag on the occasion of India’s 69th Republic Day being celebrated in the Netherlands. Ambassador Venu Rajamony delivered the President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the Nation on the occasion of the 69th Republic Day.
