WATCH: UP top cop takes oath to build Ram Mandir in Ayodhya

Date:

Amid the recent developments in the long-standing issue of a proposed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, a video is making rounds on social media which shows a number of people taking an oath to construct said Temple.

Shockingly, one of the senior-most police officers of Uttar Pradesh is also one of those taking the pledge.

Surya Kumar Shukla is the Director-General of the UP Home Guard. An IPS officer of the 1982 batch, he has held numerous positions of responsibility around the country.

Here is a translation of the words in the pledge that was taken by various religious and political leaders at the event that was held at the University of Lucknow:

“We Ram-bhakts, today, as part of this programme, take this pledge that at the earliest, the Ram Mandir be constructed.

Jai Shri Ram”

Speaking to ewsMobile partner Republic TV shortly after the newsbreak, Surya Kumar claimed misinterpretation, saying that the matter related more to creating a peaceful environment for the construction of the Temple rather than construction itself. He said that he had said so before the pledge was taken.

However, when reminded of the fact that his duty is to enforce the law, rather than take such a pledge over a matter that is sub-judice, he continued to evade and justify.

According to a report in NewsMobile partner Republic, the UP government has taken cognizance of the video and is looking into the matter.

Watch the newsbreak as well as the interview with DG Home Guards Surya Kumar Shukla in the video above.
