Lewis Hamilton will continue to drive for Mercedes

Date:

Johannesburg: Mercedes’ non-executive chairman Niki Lauda has claimed that four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will eventually sign a new deal with the Silver Arrows.

Though the British driver’s current contract set to expire at the end of the 2018 season, Hamilton had earlier said that he is not interested in joining any other team and is committed to extend his stint at Brackley beyond the end of the season.

While the extended talks over Hamilton’s new contract which would keep him at the team until 2021 have not succeeded so far, F1 legend Lauda remained confident that Hamilton would continue to drive for Mercedes.

“It’s just about the details. Lewis will continue to drive for us,” Sport24 quoted Lauda, as saying.

Meanwhile, Hamilton refused to accept that the uncertainty about his future could be the reason behind his recent slump in performance.

“When I’m driving I’m not thinking about contracts,” he said.

Hamilton is currently standing at the second spot in the drivers’ championship, trailing Ferrari rival and championship leader Sebastian Vettel by nine points.
