Donald Trump may be the chief guest at Republic Day 2019

Date:

India is all set to invite US President Donald Trump to India for the Republic Day celebrations. India is still waiting for the response from the US and the White House has indicated that Trump is ready to accept the invitation.

According to a report in TOI, the invite was followed by some rounds of diplomatic talks over this issue. The invite to Trump is also in line with the Modi government’s attempts to ensure the presence of international leaders on Republic Day.

The recommendations by NewsMobile which said ‘Prime Minister Modi must get Donald Trump on a state visit to India and that should pave way for a new paradigm of India US relations. We must make it clear that terrorism directed against India is cancer for all countries including the US as it also affects US economic interests in India and the region,’ has come true.

The invitation to White House was sent in April, which followed a series of diplomatic meetings between the two sides, it said.

The report about the Government of India inviting Trump to the next year’s R-Day parade comes at a time when serious differences have grown up between the two powerful countries over a wide range of issues, including trade tariffs, US reluctance to acknowledge India’s close energy and historical ties with Iran and New Delhi’s proposed deal for purchase of S-400 missile defence system from Russia.
